Edge protection for solar panel maintenance

Edge protection for solar panel maintenance

Portable, Non-Counterweighted Edge Protection

Safesite has installed KeeGuard® Premium at Hall & Woodhouse’s contemporary pub & restaurant in Portishead to allow safe maintenance of solar panels and plant installed on the roof.

Hall & Woodhouse is a family owned company with over 250 pubs and restaurants around the country and brewer of the award winning Badgers ales. The Portishead pub & restaurant’s design pays homage to the surrounding area’s heritage. Situated on the dockside, overlooking Portishead Quays Marina, Hall & Woodhouse Portishead is a strikingly modern building, constructed from 28 recycled shipping containers and was shortlisted in the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards.

Committed to reducing its impact on the environment, Hall & Woodhouse have installed solar panels on the roof the Portishead pub & restaurant in order to provide clean energy. As access would be required to the roof for general repair purposes as well as to maintain the solar panels, Colin Wood (Project Manager), contacted Safesite in order to find a safe solution.

Edge protection around solar panels

Following a survey and assessment of the roof areas by Safesite, KeeGuard® Premium edge protection was specified as it was able to deal with the limited space created by the installation of the panels KeeGuard® Premium provided the perfect solution as it does not require counterweights along the full run of the system. This unique design is ideal for areas such as this where traditional counterweights are unsuitable or potential trip hazards are a concern.

Edge protection for limited roof space

Colin Wood commented on the installation, “Safesite’s KeeGuard® Premium provides perfect protection for anyone working on the roof or solar panels and was able to deal with the limited space we have on the roof. The simplicity of the installation and on-going use and maintenance of the alternative harness systems was a major factor in the decision. There is the further benefit that if we expand the building to include accommodation, the system can simply be taken up and then re-installed onto the new roof.”
