BARNES announce minimalist Huf Haus for sale for £3.75 million

BARNES International have announced a five-bedroom Huf Haus called Heiwa in Kingston upon Thames, has hit the market for an impressive £3,750,000.

Heiwa, the Japanese word for peace, is a unique family home which truly evokes the serenity of the meaning of Heiwa.

Based on the traditional Huf Haus design the house has an open-plan design, high quality materials and characteristic glass exteriors that flood the property with natural light. The unique Huf design is also extremely energy efficient thanks to triple glazing providing protection from the elements and underfloor heating derived through ground or air source pumps. The German company has been building these luxury prefabricated homes in the Bauhaus architectural tradition based on the German Fachwerk (“Frame House”) design since the early 1970’s with over 200 of them now built in the UK.

Bauhaus was an influential, modernist school of art, architecture and design founded by Walter Gropius in Germany in 1919. The aim of the Bauhaus movement was to reunite art and industrial design with an emphasis on function and practicality. Adapting to the era of the machine, the Bauhaus aesthetic was born from the understanding of art’s relationship to technology and society. The Bauhaus architecture is characterised by clean lines, geometric shapes and functional design with building materials such as steel left exposed.

The 5,234 square foot detached house is set behind a secure entrance on a leafy road a few minutes off Kingston Hill, within close proximity to both Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common. A resin bonded path flanked by bamboo borders leads to the glass fronted, nine-metre-high atrium hallway. An extensive open plan kitchen, dining and living space spans across the back of the house overlooking the garden area. The spacious rooms spanning over three floors include a reception room, a family room, a dressing room and two family bathrooms as well as a terrace, a balcony and a detached double garage.

Alex Newall, Managing Director at BARNES Private Office, says:

“Heiwa is not only a beautiful, modern family home but also a sustainable and environmentally friendly property. It is located in a discreet and tranquil setting within close proximity to all the conveniences London has to offer. The traditional Bauhaus design provides families with elegant design and functionality. With functionality, follows form and Hiewa truly characterises and embodies a calmness in the family home”
