Modern Heritage – The Chevening Road Project from LBMV Architects

The Chevening project from LBMV Architects explores the architectural renovation of a traditional Victorian townhouse in North London. With a brief to extend the side and rear of the property and also convert the loft space into a new bedroom with ensuite, LBMV were challenged with creating necessary additional space for family life, whilst remaining sympathetic to the style and original period features evident throughout the property. As part of the complete renovation, LBMV oversaw a full refurbishment of the house, sourcing reclaimed wood and on-trend herringbone flooring, as well as designing custom storage solutions that blend effortlessly with the original Victorian design details.

The benefit of the side and rear extension allowed the plan of the kitchen to be reconfigured, ensuring a much more efficient use of the space. The extension also provided the possibility of a kitchen island; carefully designed to maintain the open-plan feel of the room, the island creates plenty of worktop space for preparing or entertaining friends and family. Considering both the original architecture of the property and progressive modern design, a full-width skylight has been introduced to create harmony with the garden outside and allow as much natural light as possible.
